The Culinary Canvas
The menu is a playbook of small plates which reflect an inventive fusion of global flavors, all influenced by California's local bounty. My taste buds danced with joy as I sampled highlights from their diverse offerings:
- Curried Crab Tacos - This dish combines tender crab with crisp apple, cucumber, and refreshing mint, all encased in a delicate taco shell. Each bite is a celebration of texture and flavor that will linger in your memory.
- BBQ Oysters - Served with brioche breadcrumbs, these oysters are a testament to perfect cooking. Their juicy, savory richness paired beautifully with the crunch of the topping.
- Wild Mushroom Mac & Cheese - A comfort dish elevated to gourmet status, featuring creamy fontina and crispy brioche breadcrumbs that create a satisfying contrast in textures.
- Goat Cheese Fritters - Nestled among blistered cherry tomatoes, these fritters provide a delightful crunch and a rich, creamy center enhanced by lavender honey.
In addition to these culinary delights, vegetarians and meat-lovers alike will find plenty to savor, from the Roasted Bone Marrow that melts in your mouth, to the unique twist on classic dishes like Pork Belly Pot Stickers that are both hearty and satisfying.

I am so very sorry for the Starks and the employees for the loss of this wonderful restaurant. We dined here a couple of times in September and had found one of our favorite new places. We were so excited. Your high quality food and wines paired with amazing service from staff were greatly appreciated. My positive thoughts go to all of you and hope you and your families were personally safe from the fire.

After a day of tastings we were more in the mood for small plates as opposed to entrees and canceled our dinner reservations elsewhere to eat here on the recommendation of the taster at Arista. We started with a few of their local beers, I started with the Liquefaction Kolsch and then tried the Russian River Pils. Both were very good. For small plates we tried the BBQ oysters with brioche breadcrumbs which were tender and delicious, the curried crab tacos which were light and flavorful, the blistered shishitos, pork belly pot stickers, mu shu bacon, which was served with chive and shiso crepes (a big hit) and the octopus which came with a fabulous mole. Service was friendly, attentive and helpful as they suggested many of the dishes that we enjoyed. Prices were also reasonable for what we had as we all left full but not over stuffed which was what we were aiming for.

Wiili's is a Sonoma county restaurant landmark, deservedly so. The delicious food, the wine big list with many labels that you have never heard before, and the ambiance make this a place you want to visit over & over. Inside the place is, to say it euphemistically, "cozy". To me it feels cramped and claustrophobic. Maybe I'd feel different about the room on a cold wet winter day and if the place was practically empty of customers. On a warm day / evening I prefer the patio dining, more so the back patio which is uncovered. The covered front patio is nice enough, but a bit noisier with the constant car traffic on Old Redwood hwy zooming past just yards away. The small plates format can be more honestly described as medium-ish size plates. The server said that a hungry couple usually order between 4 to 6 dishes. I ordered 6, plus dessert. See the attached photos. It was a LOT of food. My wife gave up at plate #5. Poor, delicate sweet thing that she is. The grand variety of creative victuals was uniformly delicious, savory, delightful, interesting and quintessential California cuisine. Service was attentive, smart, well informed, and cheerful. Water glasses were refilled frequently. Already said, the wine list will require you read the bottle descriptions because you probably have not before seen most of the labels. Full glass (5 ounces) prices start around $10 and go northward pretty quickly. I had a rose' @ $14 and a pinot noir @ $15. Both were Sonoma county wines. If you are a big fan of the Stark's restaurants you already know this place, it's the original jewel in the crown. If you are a far flung visitor to Sonoma wine country and looking to for something a little different, do I dare say European style?, you will love your eclectic meal here.

I have lived in Sonoma County for almost a year now and had heard so many great things about this place. We are so glad we spent an evening here with friends! We didn't have a reservation (FYI you should make one) luckily they were able to accommodate us and get us in immediately! We ordered half glasses of Sauv Blanc and it worked out perfect for our group. We ordered a bunch of items to share amongst each other. Lobster cream of corn which is AMAZING, scallops, pork belly pot stickers, quail, and delicious butterscotch creme brûlée! Every single thing was delicious! Atmosphere outside was great! We were a bit chilly and they turned the heaters on for us right away to make us more comfortable. Would highly recommend this place for a romantic setting and/or a great double date night out!

I came to the Sonoma area for a girl's trip and a friend of mine that lives in Santa Rosa highly recommended this place. The restaurant is cozy and quaint and the service was incredibly friendly. This was my first time experiencing a tapas meal and I was blown away by the quality and taste of every dish except one (the asparagus, not bad but just seemed like regular asparagus). The wine menu here is huge and has fabulous selections, and the servers are happy to help make recommendations. I think we stayed for at least 3 hours chatting, drinking great wine and most importantly EATING!! The staff never seemed annoyed at us being there so long and never rushed us. 5 stars and 2 thumbs up. I hope I have the pleasure of eating here again in my lifetime.

I've been wanting to check out Willi's Wine Bar for a while. I came here Friday for lunch (on probably one of the hottest days in recent memory!). I saddled up at the bar and ordered a glass of bubbles and the Brick Chicken with Tzatziki Sauce and Fried Onion Salad. The chicken dish was fine. But to be perfectly honest, there was just way too much going on in this dish. The skewered chicken was marinated in a sweet sauce and served on top of a green salad + fried onions that had its own distinctive dressing, and then it came with a side of spicy Tzatziki Sauce. It was just too many flavors/sauces for one small plate. It was a bit confusing to eat (which sauce am I supposed to dip my chicken in?). Service was professional, although a bit cold. The hardworking wait staff were there to take my order/deliver my food/re-fill my water glass, and that was it. Friendly chit-chat seemed like it was off the table. And that's totally fine. I'm not looking for my bartender/waiter to be my best friend when I dine, but a little warmth goes a long way. All in all, I'd come back and explore more of Willi's menu (even though, many of their dishes are a bit frou-frou for my simpleton palate). Bonus points: they offer free WiFi and plenty of outdoor seating.

Awesome late night dining spot in Santa Rosa for small plates! Between the ambiance and food, this place gets 5 stars since the service and every dish was delicious. Although it's a little pricey, you could taste the quality and the portions were good enough to share among my family of four when we wanted a light dinner after a day of wine tasting. As other Yelpers mentioned, this place seems super popular so it would be best to make reservations! We didn't have any, but when I called from DT Santa Rosa to see how busy they were... they were willing to put my name down on the list! Worked out perfectly since when we arrived 15 minutes later, we were promptly seated. We sat inside - it's a nice and intimate space for a date night, with candles on the tables and some kind of red lighting. I was impressed with the diversity in their small plates... not just the typical Spanish/Portuguese tapas, but they had a mix of Asian, Mediterranean, French, and Indian influence in their menu. My family ordered the following: - Curried Crab Tacos: We ordered 2 of these since each order comes with 3... and these were amazing. From the taco shell to the crab, it tasted really good. I've never had crab in a taco, but it tasted very fresh. Plus the apple, cucumber, and mint made it very refreshing, almost complimenting the curry flavor. Would order again! - Grilled Asparagus w/ Pesto and Poached Egg: It sounded appealing, it looked appealing... and it tasted great. Poached egg was perfect with the homemade pesto sauce and the asparagus was perfectly grilled. Topped with pistachios, I thought it was a good combination. I liked that the asparagus was very tender and easy to cut. Perfect for a vegetarian! - Slow Braised Beef Cheeks w/ Butternut Squash + Coconut Orzo: This dish surprised me! I've never had beef cheeks before, but the texture reminded me of ox tail. It has that melt in your mouth beefy goodness you can only really get from cooked oxtail. Super flavorful and tender. The butternut squash + coconut orzo was also very good, almost like a creamy risotto. The subtle sweetness in the orzo went well with the spices that were in the beef, making a winning combo. - Chocolate Banana Croissant Pudding: Great way to finish off a meal... chocolate and bananas? What's not to like?! It was very moist and sweet, but not too rich so it was easy to finish. Overall great dining experience in Santa Rosa. Parking is a little tricky since the place is off a main road, and when it gets crowded there may be limited space in the lot so you may have to go on the side of the road. It was dark outside when I went... but from what I could see, it appears to be outside of a vineyard. I imagine during the day the views from the patio are quite pretty! Would I come back? Absolutely, as there are many more items on the menu I have to try. And I want to enjoy the patio seating!

Other than the faux retro sign outside, you might think you are hitting up a dive bar as you stroll up to Willi's. Well, this ain't no Wagon Wheel. Inside is an upscale but totally cozy spot with both tables and a long counter bar. I recommend sitting at the counter for more personalized service. The menu is well-written and someone obviously put a lot of thought into the food and wine choices. They offer a number of different cheese trays, and meat trays, but no meat and cheese trays. I think they'd be well-served to offer a combined meat and cheese plate but what do I know? I went with a selection of three cheeses and followed my server's excellent suggestions as to what to get. The wines are very, very high quality. You'll pay a premium but this is good stuff. The menu has a huge and interesting selection of tapas. I'm sure you could easily make a full meal out of two or three of them. Good food, great wine, excellent service.
